KUCHING: To recognise the graduating cohort of the Anglia Ruskin University Bachelor of Arts Graphic Design programme, Limkokwing Borneo organised an exhibition displaying their final-year projects at Jalan Nanas campus.

These projects being individual efforts of each student in the cohort highlight their capabilities in planning and developing a full project.

Students were expected to plan and work within a fixed schedule, conduct extensive research and apply or resolve any issue pertaining to their projects raised by industry experts.

The work featured at the exhibition covered a range of industry related areas namely advertising, corporate identity, packaging, signage, animation, short movie and illustration.

Students also have to display their preparatory and finished work, and demonstrate an understanding of the methods, techniques, materials and processes chosen.

While all the projects were highly commended by visitors at the exhibition, one eye-catching assignment was a briefcase-file. It was devised to help budding designers organise their materials when they go for job interviews or presentations.

The briefcase contained many pockets that can hold materials and fit in all design documents and work samples.

“One of the biggest problems designers face when they need to present their work to potential clients or employers is carrying all the work around without being messy or disorganised,” said designer Natasha Wong Rusdy.

“This was the issue I had in mind when I started on my individual project. After many attempts at designing an attractive briefcase that could hold all our materials, I finally received the green light from my supervisor to proceed with this design as it was both pleasing to the eye and functional, exactly what this assignment seeks to achieve.”

Fellow classmate Siaw Quan Cheng, also wowed those present with his dynamic short animated movie. His piece, entitled ‘Pride of Legend’, was one of the projects that captivated the attention of senior lecturer from UK’s Anglia Ruskin University Chris Owen, during his visit to the campus.

“The quality of the work displayed by students is excellent, and I congratulate them for their ability to display their talent and creativity in such detail,” he said.

“The animated movie ‘Pride of Legend’ shows how the student adopted native folklore and weaved it into his fictional story. This shows us how one can infuse traditional and pop culture together. I believe that future designers can use this approach to keep traditional folklore alive and relevant for the younger generation,” he added.

The Anglia Ruskin University degree programme in Graphic Design is a programme tailored to give school leavers the opportunity to further develop their talents and skills in the field of creative design.

Its graduates can look forward to working with clients from the industry, providing them an excellent ground to showcase their talents and penetrate the design market in the State.

Students undergoing the degree will be registered as both students of Limkokwing and the university. Those holding the degree will definitely be highly sought after as web designers, illustrators, advertising directors, packaging designers, multimedia professionals, and many other related fields.
