Man fined for driving with fake licence

KOTA KINABALU: The Traffic Court here yesterday imposed a maximum fine of RM5,000, in default, three months’ jail on a 24-year-old man for driving a car with a fake driving licence.

Magistrate Herlina Muse meted out the fine on Muhamad Yusri John after he pleaded guilty to driving a Proton Satria Neo with a fake driving licence along the Tun Fuad Stephen-Teluk Likas road at 11.17am on January 4, 2007.

He was charged under Section 108 (3) (g) of the Road Transport Act 1987, punishable under Section 108 (3) of the same Act which provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or a jail term of up to one year, or both, on conviction.

In another case, Yap Shin Hyeun, 38, was fined RM5,000, in default, three months’ jail for driving a Jeep with its registration number SAA3443M which belonged to another car.

He admitted to committing the offence at the Road Transport Department headquarters here at 10.32am on February 3, this year.

The offence under Section 108 (3) (f) of the Road Transport Act 1987, provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM10,000 or a jail term of between one and five years, or both, on conviction.

Meanwhile, a manager of a hypermarket was fined RM1,200, in default, 30 days’ jail after admitting to allowing one Sabtuny Alpa to drive a lorry belonging to the company which was overloaded.

The lorry was found to have carried a load of 11,440kg which exceeded the allowable load of 8,300kg by 3,140kg.

The offence was committed along Jalan Sepanggar about 6.05pm on November 16, last year.

Sabtuny was also fined RM1,200, in default, 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to  committing the offence at the same time and place.
