RESCUE OPERATION: Fire and Rescue personnel from the scuba unit and QEH personnel with the injured man heading towards the Sabah Park jetty from the Safma market yesterday.
KOTA KINABALU: A local fish vendor suffered a back injury after lifting some baskets of fish at Safma Fish Market here yesterday.
It is believed that the man, in his 30s, was carrying baskets of fish when he injured his back around 1.30pm.
The man then collapsed in a boat as his workers came to his aid.
It is said that one of the man’s family members called for an ambulance as he could not be lifted up.
Because the fishing boat was behind a couple of other boats, the Fire and Rescue Services personnel from the scuba unit were called to assist in the operation.
The man was safely lifted from the boat and brought to Sabah Park jetty, behind Wisma Merdeka shopping mall, about 30 minutes later.
He was then taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) for treatment.
