Thieves scold house owner before escaping

KUCHING: Two thieves had the cheek to scold a house owner prior to escaping after she stumbled upon them attempting to remove a television from her house yesterday morning.

The incident happened around 7am when the owner, a woman in her 60s, woke up upon hearing noises coming from the living room of her house in Sungai Maong.

According to her, she went downstairs to check and was shocked to see two men carrying away her flat-screen television and DVD player.

She immediately enquired what they were doing, and was told by the men that ‘someone from Mile 3’ had sent them to collect the items from her house.

When she questioned them again to ask who that person was, the thieves became angry and berated her for ‘not knowing anything’ before dashing towards a red Perodua Kelisa parked outside, where two more men were waiting.

Prior to speeding off, one of the thieves ripped off the vehicle’s licence plates to prevent the house owner from recording its number.

In another incident yesterday, a doctor discovered thieves had carted away her valuables following a break-in at her rented house.

The victim in her 40s arrived home around noon upon finishing work and saw signs of forced entry at the Jalan Astana house.

Among the items missing included several pieces of jewellery, a laptop and her passport.

Both incidents have been reported to the police for investigation.
