JOHOR BAHARU: Police foiled a drug smuggling attempt with the arrest of two locals and two Myanmars having United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards in front of Kota Tinggi Plaza here, yesterday.

Johor Police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the suspects, aged 26 to 40 years, were travelling in a Proton Persona car before police detained them at 8.20 pm in Jalan Niaga 2 and found drugs worth RM100,000 in the car.

“Following the arrest, we raided a house in Pasir Gudang and found a stolen motorcycle that was reported missing in October 2010 in the city. All suspects now remain under custody,” he told reporters here.

In a separate case, Mohd Mokhtar said police arrested a 53-year-old man and seized an assortment of drugs in a raid at a house in Bukit Kangkar, Sungai Mati near Ledang on Friday.

In the 12.40pm raid, police found drugs, RM4,300 in cash and weighing equipment and further investigation revealed that suspect had been smuggling drugs in Ledang and Muar since 1998. — Bernama
