One more dies of dengue

PUTRAJAYA: A 19-year old male student has died of dengue in Selangor for the period between Feb 12 and Feb 18, said Health Ministry in a statement.

It said inspections revealed breeding places of the Aedes mosquito at the patient’s resident was high which was 5.8 per cent.

During the period, 585 cases were reported with an increase of 72 cases compared to the week before.

According to the statement, nine states recorded an increase compared to the week before with Selangor recording the highest case (44), followed by Kelantan (41), Sarawak (12), Pahang (six), Johor (four), Melaka (three), Negeri Sembilan and Sabah (two) while there was one case in Penang.

The number of localities increased from 116 to 126 and two hot spots were identified in Kuala Lumpur, namely Taman Miharja (Miharja Condo Phase 3) and Sri Melaka B Flat (Block 24-40) in Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras.

It said 78,570 premises had been inspected with 1,083 premises showing breeding places of the Aedes mosquito.

The statement said eight states had shown Aedes breeding that exceeded one percent namely Perlis, Sarawak, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Penang, Selangor, Kedah, Johor and Terengganu. — Bernama
