KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP vice chairman Edward Ewol Mujie has accused Karambunai assemblywoman Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid of trying to hoodwink the rakyat.

Edward found Jainab’s various statements on the sealing of the 6km road from 1Borneo complex to Kg Kibagu behind the hypermall misleading.

According to Edward, the government started work on the road before the end of 2011 at a cost of RM20 million.

“She even said that the tender for the project had been called and that the deadline was on Monday, Nov 14, 2011. She made such a statement in response to my statement highlighting the bad condition of the road leading from the hypermall to the remote seaside of Kg. Kibagu,” Edward said.

Edward pointed out that if it was true that the tender for the project had been closed on November 14, 2011, the contractor who would be doing the upgrading work should have been decided by now.

However, Edward said that based a statement by Jainab on February 20, 2012 which was reported in the Borneo Post she could not announce when the road upgrading work would start because every project would have to undergo a lot of process.

She had also assured that the project would start in 2012, said Edward who added that her latest statement on the project was really confusing.  Jainab must remember that in November, 2011, she had stated that the said road would be sealed by the end of 2011.

The upgrading of the road was informed by Public Works Department director Datuk John Anthony had told Jainab that the tender for road upgrading would be closed on November 14, 2011.

In this respect, Edward asked, “When the road upgrading work is going to start? Can she assure that the project can start this year? Will it be before the 13th General Election or may be the BN Government is short of funds for this project?
