SIBU: The JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur Award (CYEA) can be the gateway for young local entrepreneurs to have access to and gain experience and compete in the international market.

“Winners will have the chance to mingle and exchange ideas with entrepreneurs from overseas, international companies and governments to further explore business opportunities across industries and countries,” said CYEA 2012 organising chairman Roys Tan in a press statement yesterday.

He added that the award was not only a platform for young entrepreneurs to grow and elevate their careers but also would benefit the organisation as well as upgrade the reputation of industries and the country in creativity as a whole.

“We believe that being a good entrepreneur is not text book learning. It has a lot to do with sensitivity, observation and being mindful of market environment and working in harmony with the surroundings to enrich oneself and the business as well.

“Being successful has to do with being involved with the community, customers and the market environment,” Tan explained.

He stressed that they were committed to groom and develop a pool of creative young entrepreneurs with a holistic and progressive psyche, stressing that the new thinking for business should not be myopic and confined to only the internals of the business as they must also be outward-looking to the surroundings.

Thus, he said JCI Malaysia defined the standard with a firm commitment to mould a new crop of truly successful young local entrepreneurs by staging the CYEA 2012.

To that end, Tan encouraged aspiring young entrepreneurs to hone, showcase and win recognition for their entrepreneurial skills and ultimately compete on the international arena with the opening of the nomination ceremony yesterday.

In its sixth year, CYEA is endorsed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water.
