ULU TINJAR,Baram: A 27-year-old jobless man is believed to have stabbed a three-year-old girl to death with a pair of scissors shortly after he ran amok at an oil palm plantation in Ulu Tinjar, Baram, at about 6.30am yesterday.

The young victim, identified as Everlyn Irene, was found in a pool of blood near the workers’ quarters. There were stab wounds on her chest, and she succumbed to her injuries at the Miri Hospital.

A 24-year-old estate worker and a 14-year-old boy suffered head and bodily injuries when they tried to calm down the suspect, who is said to have been staying with Everlyn’s family since he was young.

Baram police chief DSP Abu Bakar, when contacted by The Borneo Post, confirmed the case.

“We have arrested the suspect, who is a jobless local man, in connection with the case. We will investigate this case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.”

According to sources, Everlyn’s father had gone out to work when the gruesome incident occurred.
