BINTULU: Tatau Car Rental Association has urged the government to allocate some money to repair the deplorable Tatau-Bintulu road.

Its chairman tuai rumah Bakat Imang, 60, said approximately 42km of the road was in dire need of repair, as was is littered with potholes which pose danger to road users.

“We, who provide transportation service, pity those having to endure the bumpy ride along this particular road stretching from the airport right till Tatau town.

“I hope the government can consider our request because with this condition, the road is causing a lot of problems not only to our association members who use the road everyday but is also endangering our passengers and other road users,” he said.

Bakat said the government should also consider installing street lighting along the road to provide a sense of safety to all road users. As loyal Barisan Nasional supporters, the people in Tatau deserved to be heard and their plights addressed, he said.

The association, which was officially formed in 2005, held its annual general meeting at a hotel here recently.

It has 33 registered members, and is the most active association in transporting goods and passengers.

Meanwhile, Bakat thanked the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) for issuing permits to the association members, and reminded the members to abide by the rules and regulations.

“I also urge members to make passenger safety as their priority in view of the deplorable condition of the road,” he added.
