KUCHING: SUPP Batu Kawah has nominated prominent criminal lawyer Lim Lian Kee and former Batu Kawah assemblyman Tan Joo Phoi as potentials BN candidates for Stampin in the 13thgeneral election.

Lim, a former magistrate, told The Borneo Post yesterday that both their nominations were seconded by the three sub-branches under SUPP Batu Kawah, namely Batu 10, Segobang and Stapok sub-branches.

Tan is SUPP Batu Kawah chairman and Batu 10 sub-branch chairman, while Lim is the main branch assistant secretary and Batu 10 sub-branch deputy chairman.

Lim said the nominations were made in response to Stampin MP Datuk Yong Khoon Seng’s call that the three SUPP branches under the constituency, namely Batu Kawah, Kota Sentosa and Batu Lintang, each recommend two nominees. Their names would then be proposed to SUPP headquarters for consideration.

Yong made the call because he had made it known more than a year ago that he would not be seeking re-election in the general election, which is expected to be called soon.

About 75 per cent of the voters in Stampin parliamentary constituency are Chinese, and the rest are from the Iban, Bidayuh and Malay/Melanau communities.

“The nominations (for Lim and Tan) were agreed unanimously at our branch meeting last night (Saturday).

“But I do not know if SUPP Kota Sentosa and SUPP Batu Lintang have submitted their respective proposals,” said Lim, a law graduate from Sydney University.

Lim, 57, said he believed the party trusted him, and that was why they made him the reception and protocol officer during the SUPP Chinese New Year Open House last January.
