PUTRAJAYA: Civil servants have welcomed the improved version of the current Malaysian Remuneration Scheme (SSM) and the cancellation of the Public Service New Remuneration Scheme (SBPA).

Bentong Municipal Council employee A. Kalaichalvi, 32, said the salary revision showed the government’s concern on the welfare of civil servants, especially the lower income group.

“I am confident that this announcement will raise our morale to continue to work hard to enhance the performance of the civil service,” he told reporters at the gathering of civil servants here yesterday.

At the gathering, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced salary adjustments of 13 per cent for employees in the management and professional group from grade 1 to 54, nine per cent for the Jusa A, B and C grades, eight per cent for the staff grades 2 and 3, and seven per cent for staff grade one and the Chief Secretary to the Government.

Wan Othman Deraman, 55, from the Besut District Council described the salary adjustments for various levels of civil servants as fair while the cancellation of the SBPA would narrow the gap between various grades and seniority of positions.

Mohd Noor Shukor, 54, from the Perak Agriculture Department, felt that the improved version of the SSM was equitable while the cancellation of the SBPA would silence critics on the proposed scheme which was to have been effective on Jan 1.

“Thank you prime minister for bringing the good news and we hope everybody is happy and will show their gratitude by giving an excellent service,” he said.

Kee Siew Lan, 28, from the Johor Immigration Department thanked the prime minister for his willingness to listen to complaints on problems faced by civil servants and the abolition of the SBPA was the right move to ensure that civil servants would continue to give full commitment to their jobs. — Bernama
