HFMD tally rises to 2,635 statewide

KUCHING: The cumulative number of reported cases for Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) currently stands at 2,635, according to latest figures given by the State Health Department yesterday.

Out of the 103 new cases, 48 are from Kuching.

Other divisions that reported new cases include Samarahan (18), Bintulu (8), Limbang (6), Sarikei (5) Miri (5), Sibu (4) Betong (3), Kapit (3), Mukah (2), and Sri Aman (1).

New hospital admissions reported in Kuching were 3, Sarikei (1), Sibu (1), Betong (1) and Miri (1).

The total of number of schools, pre-school facilities, and child care centres closed rose to 55, with one new institution in Kuching served with a closure order.

The number of new cases dropped from Friday’s 120 cases to 103 yesterday. The drop was observed in Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Mukah, Kapit and Miri Divisions. However, a rise was observed in Sarikei, Sibu and Limbang divisions.

No cases were classified serious, and there were no HFMD-related deaths to date.

Sarawak Health Department advised the general public to practise good hygiene to prevent the disease from spreading.
