KLANG: In what appeared to be gangland slaying, a security company operator was gunned down in the presence of horrified patrons at a restaurant in Pandamaran here Sunday night.

Newly-wed V Nirmal, 30, was dining with four friends at the restaurant in Jalan Chengkih when a man wearing a ski-mask, drew out a pistol and fired three shots from its entrance.

Two of the shots hit the victim in the ribs and left shoulder as his friends dived for cover and ran helter-skleter in the incident at 10.45pm.

The third shot struck a 35-year-old woman in the leg.

The woman was eating with her family at another table in the restaurant.

Nirmal, who was married just six months ago, died on the way to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital where his body was claimed by his family.

Initial police investigations have not ruled out revenge by underworld elements as the motive behind the murder.

Klang Selatan police deputy chief Superintendant Azman Abd Razak said yesterday, Nirmal was having dinner with four of his friends at the restaurant when two men wearing ski-masks arrived on a motorcycle.

He told Bernama that one of the duo fired three shots in the direction of Nirmal, hitting him twice in the body, while the third struck a woman who was dining with her family nearby.

He said the woman was in stable condition after she was warded at the hospital. — Bernama
