KUALA LUMPUR: Parents need to oversee the safety of their children at all times to ensure the tragedy that befell Nurul Nadirah Abdullah, five, more fondly called Dirang, does not recur, said Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar.

“It is important that parents ensure the safety of their children. There is a need to increase surveillance on children,” he told reporters after visiting the “Proton Power of 1 Showcase’ here, yesterday.

Police confirmed the charred corpse found at Nusa Damai, Masai in Johor on March 8 was that of Nurul Nadirah, following a DNA test.

The child went missing on March 1 when she left her home to buy instant noodles and eggs at a sundry shop near her house.

Police detained three suspects, aged between 30 and 40, to help in investigations. They have been remanded until March 23. — Bernama
