Four DAP members appointed by Dr Ramasamy to be dropped from boards

GEORGE TOWN: The top leadership of DAP has decided to drop four party members appointed by Penang Chief Minister II Dr P Ramasamy from the Hindu Endownment Board and State Appeals Board.

The four include K Mangaleswari, who is believed to be one of the candidates appointed by Dr P Ramasamy to sit in the two boards.

The three three others are reported to be Dr Ramasamy’s  supporters and were  ordinary members of the party.

DAP chairman Karpal Singh confirmed the matter and said the issue was discussed at a meeting attended by Ramasamy, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng recently.

“I cannot and I don’t lie …but it did happen,” he said when asked to confirm the matter at a news conference in Gelugor here yesterday.

Karpal Singh said the two boards were organisations aimed at handling the problems of temples and assisting the Indian community.

“As such, they should not have any relations with politics,” he said.

However, Karpal Singh, who is also Bukit Gelugor MP, stressed that the meeting was not a secret discussion of the party but held to discuss and resolve problems faced by DAP.

Meanwhile, commenting on DAP Disciplinary Committee’s decision on Tuesday exonerating Ramasamy of violating party discipline after he (Ramasamy) had allegedly labelled him (Karpal Singh) a ‘party warlord’, Karpal Singh said the three members of the committee, chairman Tan Kok Wai, M Kulasegaran and Lim Hock Seng should disqualify themselves. — Bernama
