LIMBANG: Parents who have kids with disabilities are urged not to keep their children at home but to send them to Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC).

Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said keeping their disabled children at home will make them feel neglected and their abilities undeveloped.

He said as parents they are responsible for providing proper education, including sending their children to the care centre, such as CRC in their respective area.

“Do not keep disabled children at home. Parents need to send them to the care centre so that they can experience a better life like other normal children,” he said during the CRC Art Expressions ceremony recently.

Also present at the ceremony was Limbang Resident Maria Hasman.

Dr Rahman said parents should not be ashamed of their children’s disabilities but provide opportunities for them to grow up as normally as possible.

“The government takes seriously the welfare of the disabled children by providing assistance and facilities as well as special learning centres throughout the nation.

These facilities will give them the opportunity to show their talent and various skills through training, guidance and therapy, he said.

Dr Rahman said a total of 85 pupils are currently undergoing training at the centre as compared to only 40 during its early inception more than 10 years ago.

The CRC is located in Desa Pabahanan and managed by a supervisor assisted by four staffs.

He revealed that following an increase in the number of pupils each year, the centre expects to be relocated to a larger building at Jalan Kubong soon.

At the same event, Dr Rahman announced a grant of RM10,000 to the centre.
