PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he could not understand why the opposition political parties are against the setting up of a parliamentary select committee on the Lynas Advanced Material Plant (LAMP)project approved by parliament Tuesday.
The prime minister said the issue demanded a solution that was above partisan politics and had to be handled by all quarters as it touched on the interests of the people and country.
“There are several issues in our country which have to be handled in a bipartisan manner. It is not a question of politics; it is question of the interests of the people and country,” he told reporters after launching the Composite Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder, an innovative product, here.
The Dewan Rakyat yesterday approved a motion for the setting up of a parliamentary select committee on LAMP and related issues of public concern, which saw some opposition MPs walk out of the house. Opposition MPs had demanded that the government withdraw the temporary operating licence issued to the Lynas plant.
Najib, when replying to a question on the setting of a minimum wage, said he might make an announcement on it on Workers’ Day on May 1.
The prime minister declined comment on the various predictions pertaining to the performance of the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election.
“I believe the important thing is for us to work hard to ensure the best victory for the Barisan Nasional,” he said. — Bernama
