KUALA LUMPUR: EMC Computer Systems (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd plans to double the number of its business partners this year, to further strengthen the local presence, said managing director Cheam Tat Inn.

Cheam said the company had now less than 10 local partners and working with more companies would allow it to expand faster.

“We want to team up with companies who provide information technology (IT) solutions, who would use our products, and resell it to customers together with their solution,” he told a press conference at a briefing on the company’s business performance here yesterday.

On products, Cheam saw growth in business analytics, big data and mid-range storage for 2012.

“For this year, we expect to see more medium-sized companies buying mid-range storage,” he said.

Cheam was confident that the local IT industry would remain upbeat this year, despite the global economic uncertainties.

According to research company, Gartner, the enterprise IT spending in Malaysia this year was forecasted to reach RM31.5 billion, 6.1 per cent higher from 2011.

For the financial year 2011, EMC Malaysia recorded an average 23 per cent year-on-year growth.

“The sectors that drove last year’s result was the financial services industry, telecommunication as well as the oil and gas. Product-wise, however, the business analytics, big data and high-end storage helped us achieve the 2011 performance,” he added. — Bernama
