KUCHING:  Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bengoh branch is not prepared to let Mambong MP Datuk Dr James Dawos relinquish his seat.

They felt that Dawos was still the right and winnable candidate to represent Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election.

The party branch deputy chairman Sora Rusah said Dawos still had the support of the people and was a true leader to develop the constituency.

“We, PBB members have full confidence in him (Dawos) to be renominated to contest in the seat in the coming general election.

“The committee members both the branch and sub-branch levels have full confidence in him, knowing that he is an experienced, focused and knowledgeable leader,” Sora said yesterday.

Dawos, who is Deputy Tourism Minister, and a three-term MP yesterday reportedly said he was prepared to go and would not lose sleep if he was dropped in the 13th general election.  Sora, who is a former political secretary to the chief minister, said the people, particularly in Mambong constituency, still needed Dawos
to further develop the area.

“Dawos has not only brought infrastructure development to the constituency, but has been able to change the mindset of the Bidayuh community,” Sora pointed out, adding that Dawos was both focused and had direction as an elected representative.

PBB Bengoh branch yesterday held a one-day seminar at Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) headquarters.

The seminar was to prepare for the coming election and ensure BN wins the seat.

“Our seminar today (yesterday) is to form a special election machinery to support him (Dawos) to win the election,” he stressed.

The seminar was also attended by the party branch vice-chairman Munded Banat, Youth secretary Halix Kuyong, Youth Information chief Bronnie Marshall and Women chief Kesean Nena.

The machinery, he explained would work closely with other BN component parties – SUPP, SPDP and PRS – and non-governmental organisations to ensure victory for BN.
