Boy drowns in fishing incident

KOTA KINABALU: A six-year-old boy drowned while fishing in a monsoon drain at the Coastal Highway near Sembulan yesterday.

The body of Arif Udin, from Taman Selungsung, Sembulan, was found around 5.30pm by Fire and Rescue personnel, about 40 minutes after he was reported missing.

It is said that the victim slipped and fell into the five-foot deep drain.

Deputy city police chief Superintendent M. Chandra, when contacted, said the victim’s body was found not far from where he was first reported missing.

Chandra said no foul play was involved and police had classified the case as drowning.

The victim’ body was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.
