PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Maznah Mazlan says the Private Sector Retirement Age Draft Bill may be tabled in parliament in June.

“The draft bill has been sent to the Attorney General’s Chamber for an indepth study,” she said after presenting 2011 excellent service awards to 636 ministry staff on behalf of Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam here yesterday.

Unlike the public sector, there is no mandatory retirement age set for the private sector.

Under the new law, an employee will only be retired at 60 years-old and if his services are required, it may be extended for four more years.

Maznah also said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will announce the long awaited minimum wage for the private sector on April 30 in Putrajaya. — Bernama
