SMK Lutong wins teenagers’ forum

ONE FOR THE ALBUM: The SMK Lutong team with the teachers and judges.

MIRI: Five students did SMK Lutong (SMKL) proud by beating 11 other schools to win the `Miri Divisional Level Teenagers Forum’ competition held at the school’s computer laboratory.

They were Erwiani Normal, Sherrylyn Wilsonce Lahung Jok, Maisarah Mohd Zamri, Mohd Mirza Sharkawi and Farah Ameila Amirul Afiq.

Their topic was `Remaja Berakhlak: Tanggungjawab Siapa’.

The other schools were SMK Subis, SMK Dato Permaisuri, SM Sains Miri, SM Vokosional Miri, SMK Luak, SMK Agama Miri, SMK Baru, SMK St. Joseph, SMK Merbau, SMK Lopeng Tengah and SMK Pujut.

SM Sains Miri and SMK Luak were in second and third places respectively.

The former presented its forum on `Facebook: Satu Revolusi’ and the latter on `Pendisiplinan Pelajar: Tanggungjawab Siapa?’.

The contest was organised by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), in collaboration with the State Education Department and Miri District Education Office for the 2012 Bahasa Malaysia Carnival.

It was open to all secondary schools in the division to create and prepare a conducive atmosphere on the use of standard Bahasa Malaysia for students.

It was also to produce model usage of the language in grammar, pronunciation and style, as well as train students to be more capable in their thinking, to master the language and use it more effectively.

SMKL was led by teachers-in-charge Nor Asmah Ahmad Tarmuzi and Mohd Nor Izwan Othman.

The win marks another milestone for the school.

The forum was headed by judges Abdul Rasid Subet (DBP), Dayang Norazan Kartini (DBP) and Zuraimie Bulee (representing Miri District Education Office).
