Wiremen charges with murder of teacher

KUALA LUMPUR: A wireman was charged with the murder of a 47-year old female teacher.

N.Sritharan, 19, nodded when the charge was read to him before Magistrate Namirah Hanum Mohamed Albaki at the Rawang Magistrate’s Court here today.

Sritharan, 19, with another person still at large was charged with the murder of S. Usharani at a PKNS bus stop, Batu 17, Jalan Ipoh, Rawang, Gombak at 7am on March 27.

No plea was recorded from the accused, who was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

Earlier, lawyer K. Muthiah, who is representing Sritharan, said he would seek the prosecution to review the charge as the victim died in the hospital and not at the scene.

Prosecuting officer Insp Abd Raheem Aliyas prosecuted.

Namirah set June 6 for mention.

Usharani was said to have been splashed with acid when she fought two men who tried to snatch her chain while waiting for a bus ride to her workplace.  — BERNAMA
