KUCHING: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s ‘walkabout’ routine reached Matang Jaya yesterday, where he spent about an hour mingling with the big crowd at Matang Jaya Pasar Tani and having breakfast there.

The prime minister was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib.

Before visiting Pasar Tani, Najib launched ‘Jimat Belanja Dapur’ (JBD) by unveiling a banner imprinted with commodity prices set by Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama).

JBD Phase III will see the stated commodities sold cheaper than the market price.

Najib later patronised Ameen Islamic Cafe, a popular Indian Muslim café, for breakfast. They were treated to local delicacies and ‘nasi beriyani’.

Apart from stalls selling vegetables, fish, fruits and local food, several government departments also set up stalls at the Pasar Tani. There was even a kids’ drawing competition.
