Company director charged for fraud

KUALA LUMPUR: A company director pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to three counts of fraud by providing false information to the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) involving a non-existent cow-rearing investment scheme.

Dr Abdul Rashid Tang Abdullah also faced an alternative of deceiving investors in the fraudulent scheme.

On the first two counts, Abdul Rashid, 50, as a director of Hadhari Cattle Industry Sdn Bhd, was alleged to have authorised two company directors, Hashim Abdul Karim and Mahathir Mohd Akhir, to make false statements to the CCM concerning allotment of shares in the company and also of its subsidiary, Hadhari Agro Holdings Sdn Bhd.

The offences were allegedly committed at the CCM office at Putra Place, Jalan Putra here on Aug 19 and Oct 7, 2009.

On the third count, Abdul Rashid was charged with making false statement to induce the victims to invest in the scheme by depositing their money into the bank account of Hadhari Cattle Industry Sdn Bhd.

He was charged with committing the offence, and also for deceiving investors (alternative charge), at the company office at Lot 3.01, 3rd Floor, Plaza Warisan, Jalan Tun H S Lee here.

Prosecuting office from CCM, Steve Chin Yun Cheong urged the court to set bail at RM150,000 with one surety for all the offences.

Judge Datuk Rozana Ali Yusoff set bail at RM100,000 with one surety and fixed June 15 for mention.
