Beating leaves man unconscious

KUCHING: A man was knocked unconscious after he was set upon by a group of residents in Matang Mile 6 around 1am yesterday.

The 22-year-old from Belaga had allegedly attempted to steal a motorcycle belonging to a resident, prompting the attack.

Personnel from the Gita police station rushed to the scene after receiving a report of the incident.

They found the victim, who was reportedly drunk, unconscious with a bloodied head.

Civil Defence Department personnel were called to the scene and they transported the man to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old technician collapsed after a work-related accident around 7pm on Thursday in Sejingkat.

He is believed to have suffered from an electric shock while carrying out his work.

A co-worker who witnessed the accident immediately turned off the power supply before calling the authorities.

The technician received outpatient treatment at SGH.

Police are investigating.
