SANTUBONG: Kampung Sungai Batu has been identified as one of four areas in the Santubong constituency with the potential for agrotourism.

Pantai Damai assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said Parliament Agriculture Development Council (MPPP) of Santubong has identified Kampung Sungai Batu as well as Kampung Sungai Lumut, Kampung Sungai Bedaun and Kampung Buntal to be suitable for agricultural activities.

“These four areas have been singled out as they are located along the central road heading towards the resort destination of Damai,” he said, adding that the villages also had the potential for large-scaled agriculture while residents here had keen interest in carrying out agricultural activities.

Abdul Rahman was speaking at the ‘Jom Berkebun di Sungai Batu’ ceremony here yesterday where he pointed out that if managed systematically, the agricultural industry had great prospects on attracting visitors.

“Therefore, we must work smart to carry out this agricultural project to increase productivity,” he said, and called for cooperation between residents and relevant agencies to identify the various types of agriculture that are suitable for operation.

Meanwhile, the event also saw Abdul Rahman presenting certificates to 53 Kampung Sungai Batu residents who had earlier participated in a short course conducted by Community College (Santubong branch) on ferrocement, flower arrangement and beading at the closing ceremony.
