Disparaging letters believe to be ‘splinters’ from DAP spat

SARIKEI: Letters found distributed in residential areas here were believed to be ‘splinters’ from a spat between two local Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) branches over the choice of candidate for Sarikei.

Sarikei and Bintangor DAP branches had been at loggerhead over the Sarikei candidacy where both sides had recommended their respective candidates for the seat, considered by political observers as `hot’.

During the party’s `hearing’ session recently, the top party leaders were offered three potential candidates to pick from.

From Sarikei side were its secretary, Andrew Wong Ling Biu and assistant secretary, Wong Chin King while Bintangor recommended Meradong assemblywoman Ting Tze Fui.

The letters were directed against Dr Wong Hua Seh who is Sarikei DAP chairman and Repok assemblyman and Andrew Wong, apparently aimed at jeopardising the chance of Sarikei’s candidates.

Among others, the content of the letters questioned the relationship between Hua Seh and Andrew and the latter’s motive in recommending Andrew.

The perpetrators of the letters also claimed that Ting was DAP top leadership’s choice which should not be disturbed.

The message in the letters which was conveyed in ‘rough’ language also accused Hua Seh and Andrew of conspiring to betray and run down the party.

Meanwhile, Andrew when contacted yesterday said that he was aware of the letters, but refused to make any comment.

Andrew likened the content of the letters to comments posted by naughty users of social media.
