SMKL adds another feather to its cap

MIRI: It surely was another proud moment for SMK Lutong (SMKL) when it became the only school in the state selected to join the ‘2012 Borneo International Marathon’ in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

And the outing was made even sweeter with the achievement by four of its athletes during the international event, adding to the accolade of good names the school had in sports, thus preserving its `scented’ identity and overall image.

Ramles Jimbai Christopher Dunggat, Mohd Zul’Aizat Ramli, Liew Mei Lung and Annathasia Galau, who were accompanied by their teachers Ho Hwa Chong and Romina Luhong Ding, not only brought home the prizes but pride as well from the Land Below The Wind.

They were among the 3,000 athletes from several countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Argentina, the Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei Darusalam taking part in the competition.

The international competition, carrying the theme ‘Gone Running’, was the fifth in a series. It was organised by the Kinabalu Running Club and held at the Likas Stadium.

The events competed included Full Marathon (41.195km) Open and Veteran categories for male and female, Half Marathon (21.1km) Open and Veteran for male and female, 10km Marathon Open (male and female) and School Category.Rambles took part in the 10km (Male Open Category).

He won the fifth placing in a time of 43 minutes and received a medal, a certificate and RM100 in cash.

Mohd Zul’ Aizat also took part in the 10km race and secured the 13th placing (47 minutes).

Liew, meanwhile, finished the 10km race in the female open with a time of 57 minutes to emerge 12th. Ho managed to get to the 109th place in the 10km race in the Male Open with a time of 58 minutes, while Annathasia also came up as the 109th winner in the 10km Female Open with a time of one hour and 19 minutes.

They got a medal and a certificate each.

SMKL principal Marcus Hugo Matu Lejau thanked the athletes and the teachers for the overwhelming success.

“They worked so hard and made all the effort to train prior to the competition.

“For this, they deserve all the compliments and praises from everybody,” he commended.
