KOTA BELUD: The Public Works Department (PWD) is in the process of completing works on the alternative route to facilitate access for villagers affected by the landslide which damaged the road to Kampung Kiau.

According to Kota Belud member of parliament Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, once work on the alternative route is completed, it will facilitate travel in and out of the affected area for the villagers, adding that the villagers currently rely on a longer route since last Wednesday when the landslide occurred.

“The road they are using now is longer and only passable to four-wheel-drive vehicles. So when the four-kilometer road PWD is completed, it will be easier for the villagers and for food supply to reach the affected area,” he said.

Abdul Rahman also said that Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is doing its best to resolve the electricity supply which was also cut off as a result of the landslide.

“We will discuss with SESB about the matter and this includes supplying the villages with generator sets if there is a need to do so,” he said after inspecting the area and distributing aid to the affected villagers recently.

Also present were Kadamaian assemblyman Datuk Herbert Timbun Lagadan, his Tempasuk counterpart, Datuk Musbah Jamli and Umno Kota Belud deputy chief Awadnir Matanggal.

Abdul Rahman who is also Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary, added that the service centres of the Kota Belud member of parliament, the Kadamaian and Tempasuk assemblymen’s office and the Kota Belud district office have distributed aid to the villagers.

Besides food supply, 600 boxes of candles were also distributed among the villagers while waiting for SESB to resolve the power supply.
