KOTA KINABALU: The Information, Communications and Culture Ministry (KPKK) is expecting 30,000 guests to come to the three-day carnival it will be hosting tomorrow, in conjunction with the official opening of its integrated complex here.

To be hosted at the ground of the newly completed building, the carnival will feature fun-filled activities and opportunities for aspiring newscasters and television hosts to join RTM through a number of on-the-spot auditions to be held throughout the event.

“We expect a huge turnout not only because this is the first integrated complex that brings several agencies under the ministry together but also because there are a lot of attractive programmes that have been lined up,” said Sabah Broadcasting director Abdul Jalani Mahmud.

Besides the auditions, he said there will be singing and fashion competitions that are opened to the public, he said in a press conference announcing the event here yesterday.

Jalani said visitors could also participate in interesting traditional sports or ‘sukan rakyat’ events, including Sepak Manggis, and those who prefer modern sports could take part in open street soccer, hockey, football or badminton competitions.

“Visitors can also bring their families to check out the exhibition where there will 34 booths displaying various products and services ranging from automobile to food, clothes and handicraft.

“The highlight would be the Gegar Olimpik 2012 concert to be held on Sunday night and aired live, featuring local artistes and performers, including Spider, Ani Mayuni, Ali Terra Rossa, Jimmy Palikat, Jannrywine, Kecik of Raja Lawak and many more,” he said, adding the concert would be hosted by Didie Alias and Ramli Carlo.

The complex costing about RM80 million, commenced construction in 2009 and fully completed last year.

Built on a 6.77-hectare site along Jalan Kepayan-Petagas ByPass, it houses four agencies under KPKK namely state Broadcasting Department (RTM), Information Department, Special Affairs Department (Jasa) and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).

It consists of two administration blocks and a studio block that aims to expand the broadcasting landscape in Sabah, strengthening its role as a pulse for news and current affairs coverage.

The opening ceremony is expected to be graced by Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on Saturday.

Also expected to attend the function are Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
