A ONE Stop Registration Centre for childcare centres has been launched in March this year to encourage and expedite the process of registering childcare centres.

Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the centre is nestled in all divisional Social Welfare Department offices.

“This one-stop registration centre is expected to lessen the duration of the registration process from 12 months to 3.5 months,” she said in her winding-up speech for her ministry yesterday.

Fatimah said the state government would continue to focus on increasing access, equity, and quality of early childhood education in the state.

“In 2012, a total of 1,415 nurseries have been set up by the state Social Development Department (Kemas) with 20,806 children while a total of 1,375 pre-school classes had been set up by the Education Department with 25,516 children.

“There are 170 kindergartens set up by the National Unity and Integration Department with 3,745 children and 367 private kindergartens registered with the state Education Department with 2,110 children.”

She said Kemas also had 46 childcare centres with 725 children, National Unity and Integration Department has 3 centres with 53 children, and private childcare centres numbered 63 centres with 1,408 children.

“Another 109 private childcare centres are in the process of registration.”
