IPOH: Malaysia clinched a point against Asian hockey powerhouse South Korea when the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the prestigious Sultan Azlan Shah Cup tournament at Stadium Azlan Shah here Thursday night.

The Koreans took the lead as early as the seventh minute through Seong Jo Ho who slotted home the ball past Malaysia’s S. Kumar keeper during a goalmouth melee.

Though playing against the much fancied side who are ranked sixth in the world, Tai Beng Hai boys went on the offensive thereafter to find the equaliser but were denied by a stout South Korean defence.

Malaysia earned two penalty corners but failed to convert either, leaving the score to stand 1-0 at half-time.

On resumption, a lightning raid by Malaysia in the 56th minute paid dividends when Faisal Saari’s shot beat South Korea’s keeper, Lee Myung Ho. –Bernama
