TAMBUNAN: The crime index of the Keningau police district has contracted by 14.8 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

Keningau district police chief Deputy Superintendent Zahari Mohamed, said the decline should be construed as a motivating for the police to continue to work harder to reduce the crime rate to the lowest level possible.

“The application of technology in the investigation system has given a boost to the police where high-profile cases which have attracted public attention were solved in the shortest time possible and the offendors taken to court,” Zahari said.

A total of 160 cases, equivalent to 56.33 per cent, of 284 cases involving narcotics and commercial crimes were taken to the courts and the number exceeded the set target of 20 per cent.

The adoption of the ‘Blue Ocean Strategy’ utilising the principles of policing and the establishment of innovative and creative and smart partnership with the Civil Defence Department (JPAM) , Rela and local authorities has improved performance and productivity.

“The spirit of volunteerism among youths, housing estate residents, civil societies, civil servants, the public sector with their unwavering support to the police in crime busting is also an important factor that contributes to the contraction in the crime index,” he said in his speech at a ceremony to receive logistical contributions from Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan on Thursday at the Tambunan police station.
