Three-outlet sink wins young inventors awards

KUCHING: The invention of a sink with three outlets won a team of young inventors from SJK Chung Hua Mile 15 near here three awards at the Malaysian Young Inventors Competition (MYIC) and Asian Young Inventors’ Exhibition (AYIE) 2012 at KLCC, Kuala Lumpur recently.

The invention was the product of the school’s three innovative pupils, namely Pelmie Noel, Natasha Sunaau and Chan Sing Teck.

The awards won by them were the Golden Award, Malaysia and Asia Best Young Inventors Award for primary school level in the Kitchenware Category and World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Award.

The sink the students invented comes with three holes (outlets) with covers where each hole is to be connected to a PVC pipe.

Each hole has a separate function where one channels the water for storage, another recycles the water and the last one disposes of dirty water into the main drain.

When in use, one of the covers will be removed and that will separate the water for recycling and by doing so, two thirds of the water used in the kitchen can be reused to effectively help reduce water bills.

Around 13 countries took part in the recent competition where five primary schools from various parts of the country were selected to represent Malaysia.

The participants from SJK Chung Hua Mile 15 were accompanied by a teacher, Dew Kee Bee and the headmaster, Chai Seng Hiong as the technical advisor.
