SIBU: None of the food stalls assessed by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) during its latest cleanliness assessment have achieved a Grade A.

Only nine stalls attained Grade B, while 80 stalls obtained Grade C and 26 were rated Grade D.

“This is very sad,” SMC Market and Petty Traders Standing Committee chairman Chieng Buong Toon told reporters after the monthly full council meeting on Friday.

“We’ve instructed them to improve and prepare for the next round of assessment in the middle of June.”

He warned food stall operators who received Grade D that they would be asked to cease operations if they failed to improve during the next round of assessments.

“We’ve given them guidelines and sufficient time to make improvements,” he said.

Meanwhile, Works and Traffic Standing Committee vice-chairman Abang Iskandar Abang Latip said the new traffic flow arrangement surrounding the Bus Terminal in Pahlawan Commercial Centre would take effect tomorrow (May 28). He said the current exit route for long distance buses from the bus terminal could be quite congested at times.

“In order to alleviate the situation, the council has decided to redirect all buses to exit from Diong Kik Road,” he said, adding that the entry point for the buses remained the same. There is no restriction for normal vehicles to enter Diong Kik Road.
