KEPALA BATAS: Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi lauds the decision of the government to continue its 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) for the second round.

Abdullah, who is also Kepala Batas member of parliament, said he believed the government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak understood deeply the needs of the people.

“It is a good move if the government wants to give BRIM again and can afford to do so as it is in the interest of the people, especially the poor,” he told reporters after opening an Annual General Meeting of the Penang Mosques Parish Association, here, yesterday.

He was commenting on a proposal to continue BRIM for the second round which was discussed during the Cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, two days ago. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was reported to have said that the aid could be implemented if the government obtained an increase in income including in revenue collected by the Inland Revenue Board. — Bernama
