Residents blame frequent road flooding on housing developer

INUNDADTED: The flooded road in Taman Jelita.

MIRI: Heavy rain last Sunday morning has caused the road at Taman Jelita area near SMK Taman Tunku here to be inundated.

According to one of the residents of the housing estate, who introduced himself as Noel, the road was often flooded during rainy days, and when the weather is good it becomes dusty, posing safety and health hazards to residents as well as road users.

“The source of the problem is believed to be the on-going construction activities by the housing developer in the area – these have been happening since 2009,” said Noel in a complaint provided to the media.

He explained that during daytime, the road would be heavily used by lorries transporting soil from the construction site.

“Sometimes, lumps of soil dropped from the lorries into the middle of the road, and the lorry drivers just ignored them without clearing the mess,” he pointed out.

He further said some of the lorries were sometimes parked at the roadsides without proper signage, and “if these things continue to be left unchecked, untoward incidents may occur.”

WATER EVERYWHERE: Another section of the road that is inundated.

It was claimed that the developer had not taken any remedial action although some individuals had lodged several complaints at the company’s office in Taman Tunku.

Noel hopes that the relevant authority will look into the matter.
