Woman slapped with RM400 fine for hurting own mum

KUCHING: A Magistrates’ Court here yesterday fined a woman RM400 after she pleaded guilty to have assaulted her own paralysed mother.

Sustria Pisto, 38, from Kampung Sikog in Penrissen, pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to her mother Pisto Nupeng, 58, by slapping her on her face with her bare hands at their house at 8pm on June 8.

Magistrate Maris Agan convicted her to a charge read under Section 323 of the Penal Code which provides for a year jail or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both.

Sustria appeared calm when the fine was read but broke down after she was ordered to be jailed for a month after failing to pay the fine.

Her mother, with the help of a relative, lodged a police report after she could not bear any longer being abused by her daughter for about a year. And due to the constant abuse she has facial injuries to show as proof.

In the same court room, a youth was fined a total of RM800 after he pleaded guilty to having assaulted a man from the same village and also for possession of a penknife.

For the first charge, Iiswarid Jamean, in his 20s from Rampangi, pleaded guilty to have assaulted the victim at about 6.30pm on Oct 15 last year.

For the second charge, he admitted to have possessed the penknife which was found inside his trousers when he was arrested at his house at 2.45pm on June 8.
He was fined RM400 for each charge or in default a month’s jail.

The victim, who is also the complainant, was assaulted by the accused with a metal rod which injured his fingers.

In his mitigation, Iiswarid told the court that he would try to seek forgiveness from his victim and said that he regretted what he had done to him.

Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted in both cases.
