KUCHING: Chung Hua Primary School No. 6 (Padawan District) has made the state proud by winning the National English Carnival for Primary and Secondary Schools 2012 action song contest, the first school from Sarawak to win such a competition.

Headmistress Kho Bee Leng led the school’s action song team made up of 15 Primary 3 (nine years old) students accompanied by three teachers to the competition at Sungai Petani, Kedah from June 12 to 14.

“We are very happy and proud of them. The teachers have been working hard and the students put in much effort to make this a success. Last year, we were placed fifth. We are surprised to be the champion this year,” said Kho when met at Kuching International Airport upon the team’s arrival from Kedah Thursday evening.

According to her, Chung Hua Primary School No. 6’s action song team with their theme ‘Truly Malaysians’ beat 14 other teams from 12 states and the two federal territories.

Apart from appreciating the team’s effort, Kho also expressed her gratitude to parents who gave their full support to the children and the school.
