Ex-convict held for robbing security guard

KOTA KINABALI: Police have arrested a 32-year-old former convict about 24 hours after he robbed a security guard with a machete.

City police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said the local suspect armed with a machete robbed the security guard in Alam Mesra, Jalan Sulaman, here on June 7.

“Police report shows that the incident happened around 6.50pm when the suspect approached the 16-year-old victim and robbed him of his handphone and RM120,” he told at a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

Ahmad Sofi said acting on the report, police managed to identify and arrest the suspect on June 8 around 7pm.

Police also recovered the victim’s handphone and confiscated a machete that was believed used by the suspect, he said.

The suspect has been remanded for investigation under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, and it provides for 20 years’ jail and whipping.
