Sngs’ track record for all to see — Munan

KUCHING: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) vice-president Munan Laja yesterday came to the defence of his president Larry Sng and prime mover Dato Sng Chee Hua by saying there should not be any doubt about the Sngs’ performance as elected representatives.

“Their track record is there to be seen and assessed, and what better proof than the recent state election result in Pelagus, whereby an independent George Lagong, riding on the popularity of his predecessor, Larry, managed to win the seat by beating the PRS candidate.”

Munan was responding to a news report which quoted PRS deputy president Datuk Joseph Entulu as questioning the times Larry had visited longhouses in Pelagus and likewise the elder Sng in Pelagus (when he was the assemblyman) and in Julau (when he was the MP).

Entulu, who is Selangau MP, looks set to face Larry in the coming general election. At a function in Sibu on Saturday, Entulu ticked off Larry for claiming that he (Entulu) did not do enough in developing Selangau.

Urging Larry to “check before criticising”, he said Larry did not know he had moved extensively to pursue all facets of development comprising infrastructure, education and basic amenities.

However, Munan defended Larry by saying that his party president was merely expressing the complaints from the ground in Selangau as they had said that their MP never visited their longhouses and, as such, would not be able to attend to their problems and needs.

“And lack of basic facilities which could be easily resolved with MRP (minor rural projects) grants currently top the major complaints in the constituency.

“Why the need to be so defensive if you feel you have done no wrong?” he questioned Entulu.

Munan, who was once linked with Sng’s faction in PRS before joining PKR and now renewing his alliance with the Sngs in SWP, also boasted that SWP could do better than PRS if given the trust to represent the people in Parliament.

“Based on our visits to the area, the voters there welcomed us with much enthusiasm as they know we don’t give them empty promises.”

SWP, which claimed to be BN-friendly, plans to contest in all seats held by PRS, a BN component, in the coming polls.
