3 killed, 9 missing in landslide in E. Indonesia

JAKARTA:Rescuers have found three bodies and are searching for nine missing persons after a landslide in the eastern part of Indonesia earlier Tuesday, Xinhua News quoted a local official.

Heavy rain had the soil fallen and hit and destroyed two houses in Ambon city, the capital of Maluku province at 3: 15 local time Tuesday, Eka Gultom, head of disaster management and mitigation agency of Maluku province told Xinhua by phone.

“Rescuers are searching for the nine underneath the soil,” Dody Heryanto, head of search and rescue office in Maluku province told Xinhua over phone.

So far two people have been secured safely, he said.

Landslide has been frequent in Indonesia during heavy rains.
