Aquarium shop owner ordered to compensate client

KOTA KINABALU: An aquarium shop owner was ordered to refund RM750 within 14 days to a client by the Consumer Claims Tribunal yesterday.

Kwan Wing Hung who bought a fish tank at the shop in February, paid RM1,500, believing the tank was strong and of good quality.

“I paid that amount of money because I want a good fish tank, but unfortunately after three months it was broken. I called the shop to look at the tank but they never entertained me.

“I was even told that my purchase was not under warranty and they were not going to refund my money. I am claiming for a new fish tank or the shop refunds the amount which I had paid,” said Kwan.

The owner of the aquarium shop who attended the hearing yesterday, said most of the fish tanks would break if there was pressure from the water.

He also said the fish tank which Kwan had bought was not under warranty and he was not replacing it with a new one, especially when Kwan had used it for three months.

Consumer Claims Tribunal president Datuk Dr Lawrence Thien said the aquarium shop must be responsible for selling expensive goods to clients and he must pay RM750 as compensation.
