Traffic cops deny accepting bribe

SANDAKAN: Two traffic policemen pleaded not guilty in the Corruption Court yesterday to the charge of accepting a bribe.

Lance Corporal Masiddin Tibong and Lance Corporal Mohd Kalim Kazwan @ Joan were charged under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, punishable under Section 24 of the same Act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

Masiddin and Mohd Kalim were alleged to have accepted a bribe of RM300 at the Corner Store of Liberty Parade, Bandar Kim Fung, Sandakan on March 11 last year at 3pm from Zuliyanshah Antonio as an inducement not to issue a summons for a traffic offence.

Meanwhile, Masiddin also faced another charge under Section 16 (a) (B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for allegedly accepting a RM400 bribe on March 10 about 4pm from Zuliyanshah Antonio as an inducement not to issue summonses for traffic offenses committed by the latter.

Judge Dean Wayne Daly allowed both accused persons to be released on RM5,000 bail each, with RM3,000 deposited to the court by a local surety.

Deputy public prosecutor Joyce Blasius prosecuted.
