Fake MyKad lands Filipino in jail

KOTA KINABALU: A 28-year-old Filipino was jailed for one year by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for possessing a fake MyKad.

Simbon Hamsi Gustdiam pleaded guilty before magistrate Herlina Muse to possessing the fake MyKad bearing the number 850710-12-6577 under his name at a kongsi house in a construction site, Jalan Damai here about 12.30am on June 15.

He was convicted under Regulation 25 (1) (e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which provides a fine of between RM3,000 and RM20,000 or a jail term of up to three years, or both, on conviction.

The facts of the case stated that the accused was arrested during an operation dubbed “Ops Nyah” by police and People Volunteer Corps (Rela) at the said place.

During the inspection, they found that the accused had used a fake MyKad.

Further investigation revealed the accused obtained the document for RM250 from an unidentified woman.

In another case, Naji Andi, 42, was jailed for 14 days after he admitted to possessing stolen items.

The Filipino was found to have possessed a cutter, a scissors to cut zinc and 20 rods of concrete metals by the side of Jalan Lintas Pendek at the back of Taman Selesa in Tanjung Aru about 11.30pm on June 14, this year.

The court also ordered the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.

Meanwhile, the court sentenced Sopianto Sangkala, 34, Moktar Paisal, 28, and Adnan Badikan, 22, to four months’ jail while Abdullah Maulah, 25, and Ridwan @ Trishno Patimbangi, 44, were fined RM1,800 and RM1,700 respectively, in default, four months’ jail after they pleaded guilty to separate drug consumption charges.

All the accused were arrested at noon on May 11, this year at Kampung Lokub in Menggatal.

Each of them was separately charged under Section 15 (1) (c) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years, or both, on conviction.

The magistrate ordered locals Sopianto, Moktar, Abdullah and Ridwan to be placed under police supervision for two years while Filipino Adnan was ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for further action.

Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng prosecuted the cases.
