HFMD on the rise again after recent holidays

KUCHING: The number of Hand Foot Mouth Disease (HFMD) cases has increased after the school and Gawai holidays.

A statement issued by the State Health Department said the total number of new cases reported this week (from June 17 to 22) was 341.

The division with highest number of new cases were Kuching, Samarahan, Miri , Sibu and Sarikei. During this week, increasing cases were noted in Kuching, Samarahan, Betong and Sarikei.

The cumulative number of cases as of 22 June was 8,142.

The number of admission from June 17 to 22 is 32. In this week, 24 clusters were reported, involving 19 family clusters and five child care centres.

Four closures order were served to pre-school SK Tarat, Tadika KEMAS Kampung Maong in Kuching, Taska Permata Perpaduan Bumiko in Miri and St Francis Day Care Centre in Sarikei.

The health department has advised the public to continuously practice personal hygiene especially proper hand washing, seek medical treatment if their children have signs and symptoms of HFMD, limit outdoor activities and visits to public places.
