CARING: Mohd Ilham is excited meeting Ting who is caring enough to come personally to hand over the wheelchair and RM500.

MIRI: The plight of the family of Tamrin Dollah, 75, who is paralysed after contracting Parkinson’s disease, got the attention of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) here.

Yesterday, the chairman of SUPP Piasau Datuk Sebastian Ting who represented the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui presented a wheelchair and RM500 to help alleviate the financial burden of the family.

“This assistance comes from the government’s Mayang Fund (Caring Community Development Council) to assist the less fortunate. Hopefully it will alleviate their financial burden,” said Ting after handing over the assistance to Marlia Bujang, Tamrin’s wife, at her house in RPR Batu 6 here.

According to Marlia, her husband – a former labourer – contracted Parkinsons a year ago and has been paralysed since then. Also paralysed since birth is their youngest child, Mohd Ilham, 25.

“I am very thankful to Datuk Seri Peter and Datuk Sebastian and the government for helping to alleviate our sufferings, although the amount is not sufficient to meet our monthly expenses.

“As both my husband and son are paralysed, their diaper expenses is already about RM300 per month, whereas their welfare assistance is only RM300 each,” said Marlia.

She hoped that caring members of the public could come forward to assist them, adding that her other six children did not earn much and had big families.

Those interested to help can contact her daughter Azlin Tamrin at 019-4828829 or visit Marlia Bujang at their house at Lot 19, Kampong RPR Batu 6, Pujut/Lutong Road.

Meanwhile, Ting who is also the political secretary to the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin handed over a walking stick to a stroke patient, Borhan Sarip, 77, in the same area.

Borhan suffered a stroke five months ago and has to use a light chair to move about.
