The Banquet only Chinese restaurant certified ‘halal’

KUCHING: The Banquet has become the only Chinese restaurant in the city to be certified ‘halal’ by state Islamic Affairs Department (Jais).

According to the general manager of The Banquet, Geofery Edward John, the restaurant had been certified ‘halal’ by Jais since its inception in 2008 and was constantly renewing the certification.

A simple ceremony was held on Sunday night for the presentation of ‘halal’ certification to the management of The Banquet by Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman.

Also present during the ceremony were Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, Assistant Minister of Resource Planning Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Assistant Minister of Rural Development Julaihi Narawi and permanent secretary to the Ministry of Resource Planning and Environment Datu Sudarsono Osman.

The Banquet’s director Lee Chin Teck was present to receive the certificate from Daud on behalf of the management.
